Our Curriculum Framework

Engagement. Entitlement. Enrichment. Enhancement.

At New Moston Primary School, our Curriculum Framework sets out the principles that shape the curriculum children experience across the school.

It is built around four key pillars: Engagement, Entitlement, Enrichment and Enhancement.

Together, these help us provide a curriculum that is ambitious, inclusive, carefully sequenced and responsive to the needs of our pupils.

Our curriculum is rooted in our school values of Growth, Standards, Attitude and Pride and is designed to help every child build strong foundations, develop confidence and experience success.

Our Four Curriculum Pillars

Engagement

“Learning starts with belonging.”

Children learn best when they feel safe, valued, included and ready to participate.

We therefore place strong emphasis on creating purposeful learning environments and curriculum experiences that help children connect with what they are learning.

This includes:

  • meaningful and relevant learning;
  • strong relationships and a sense of belonging;
  • representation within the curriculum;
  • teaching that promotes curiosity and participation; and
  • appropriate support to help all pupils engage successfully.

Entitlement

“Every child has the right to a great education.”

Every child at New Moston is entitled to a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum.

We ensure pupils have access to the essential knowledge, skills, concepts and experiences they need to succeed, regardless of background or starting point.

This includes:

  • a carefully sequenced curriculum;
  • high expectations for all pupils;
  • clear progression across subjects;
  • strong foundations in essential knowledge and skills; and
  • full access to the curriculum through appropriate support and adaptation.

Enrichment

“Learning goes beyond the classroom.”

We want children’s education to extend beyond the core curriculum.

Enrichment helps pupils broaden their experiences, discover new interests and develop socially, culturally and personally.

This may include:

  • educational visits and visitors;
  • clubs and extra-curricular opportunities;
  • sport, music and the arts;
  • competitions and special projects;
  • pupil leadership opportunities; and
  • experiences that connect learning to the wider world.

Enhancement

“We build on learning to make it stronger.”

Enhancement is about deepening, strengthening and extending the curriculum so that learning is secure, meaningful and ambitious.

It allows teachers to respond to what pupils need and create opportunities for children to think more deeply, make connections and build confidence.

This includes:

  • deepening knowledge and understanding;
  • purposeful opportunities for challenge;
  • targeted support where needed;
  • revisiting and strengthening important learning;
  • using assessment to refine teaching; and
  • creating opportunities for pupils to apply learning in different contexts.

Why This Framework Matters

Our Curriculum Framework helps us ensure that pupils experience a curriculum that is:

  • ambitious and inclusive;
  • broad and balanced;
  • carefully sequenced;
  • rich in knowledge and experience; and
  • responsive to the needs of our pupils.

The framework also connects closely with our Teaching Framework and Learning Framework.

The Curriculum Framework explains the principles behind what pupils experience.
The Teaching Framework explains how teaching supports learning.
The Learning Framework explains how pupils develop as learners.

Together, these form a shared approach to curriculum, teaching and learning across New Moston.

Our Curriculum Ambition

We want every child to leave New Moston with secure foundations, a broad range of experiences and the confidence to continue learning.

Through Engagement, Entitlement, Enrichment and Enhancement, we aim to provide a curriculum that opens doors, raises ambition and gives every pupil the opportunity to grow and succeed.
