Meet Peter Stewart

MEET PETER STEWART

Headteacher. Father. Community Leader. Founder of Walk the Premier League.

Peter Stewart is the Headteacher of New Moston Primary School in North Manchester and the founder of Walk the Premier League: Step Up for School Communities — a national movement created to stand up for safer, stronger, opportunity-rich childhoods.

Peter has spent his career working in communities facing real challenges: rising need, stretched resources, families under pressure, and children who deserve far more than the system currently gives them.

As a headteacher, he sees it every single day.

Children with huge potential.
Families doing their best.
Communities full of heart — but lacking safe spaces, support and opportunities.

Instead of waiting for help, Peter decided to take action.

Why He’s Walking the Premier League

In February 2026, Peter will start to walk over 1,000 miles, connecting all 20 Premier League stadiums, to shine a national spotlight on the pressures facing primary-aged children and the communities that support them.

This walk is Peter’s way of saying:

  • our children deserve more,

  • our schools need support,

  • our communities need investment,

  • and headteachers are willing to lead the way.

Along the route, he invites:

  • families

  • school groups

  • Walk & Talk Guests

  • community leaders

  • headteachers across the country

…to join him, share their stories, and help build momentum behind a movement that puts children first.

A Vision for Community and Childhood

Peter’s leadership is rooted in a simple belief:

Strong schools build strong communities — and strong communities build strong children.

This belief is the foundation behind the movement’s legacy project:
The North Manchester Primary Sport & Community Hub, a first-of-its-kind facility designed exclusively for primary-aged children.

Peter is passionate about creating:

  • safe places for children to play

  • wellbeing support for families

  • opportunity-rich environments

  • positive activities and role models

  • community spaces that rebuild pride and belonging

His vision goes far beyond one school:
it’s about transforming childhood across North Manchester — and inspiring school communities nationwide.

A Headteacher Who Steps Up

Peter is known for:

  • his community-first approach

  • his ability to unite people

  • his passion for improving outcomes for children

  • his leadership in challenging circumstances

  • his belief in the power of hope, action and humanity

Walk the Premier League is:

It’s a commitment.
A promise.
A stand.

And critically:

Every single mile of the 1,000+ mile challenge will be walked in school holidays.

Peter is dedicating his personal holiday time — not school time — to step up for children and communities. The day job comes first,

This challenge is a headteacher leading from the front — in a shirt and tie — walking every mile to represent the reality of school leadership and the resilience of school communities.

A Personal Message from Peter

Every day I see children with incredible potential growing up in communities that deserve safer spaces, more support and more opportunity.

I’m walking the Premier League to shine a light on their needs, to stand up for school communities across the country and to show what leadership looks like when we choose action over silence.

This movement is for every child, every school and every community that wants something better.

Step up with me.
