Behaviour
At New Moston, we believe that a calm, respectful, and purposeful environment is the foundation for successful learning. Positive behaviour is not just about following rules — it’s about building strong relationships, developing self-regulation, and nurturing the values that help every child thrive in school and beyond.
We have high expectations for every pupil, and we teach and model the behaviours that enable children to become confident, responsible, and respectful members of our community. Our approach is rooted in consistency, fairness, and a deep understanding of individual needs.
Our Commitment
We believe that every child can learn to manage their behaviour and make positive choices with the right support. Through a balance of high expectations and high level of support, we ensure that all pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated to succeed.
Our aim is not just to manage behaviour, but to teach it — equipping children with the skills, understanding, and self-control they need for school, relationships, and life.
Our Approach
We recognise that behaviour is a form of communication. Our systems and strategies are designed to support children in understanding their choices, reflecting on their actions, and learning from their experiences.
This includes:
● Establishing clear routines, expectations, and boundaries across the school.
● Building strong, positive relationships based on trust, respect, and consistency.
● Supporting pupils to develop self-regulation, resilience, and emotional literacy.
● Responding to behaviour with fairness, proportionality, and a restorative approach.
● Working in partnership with parents to support children’s behavioural development.
Our Behaviour Pillars
Our approach is guided by four core pillars that underpin a positive and inclusive behaviour culture:
Routines
Predictable, consistent routines create a safe and structured environment where children know what to expect and what is
expected of them.
Rules
Clear, simple rules reflect our school values and provide a shared understanding of how we treat ourselves, each other, and
our environment.
Rewards
We celebrate effort, achievement, and positive choices, reinforcing the behaviours that contribute to a respectful and aspirational culture.
Responses
When behaviour falls short, we respond in a fair, proportionate, and restorative way — focusing on accountability, reflection,
and future growth.
